Talk about a bunch of cramming, late nights and long days. It's all behind us now, hallelujah! Just in time for tonight's pub crawl. Here's some cool history about the pubs we'll be visiting... London is full of hidden treasures!
The Prospect of Whitby: The pub dates from the time of King Henry 8th (1520) and has been the meeting place for sailors from all over the world for over 400 years! Said to be the place where Charles Dickens got the inspiration for the pub that featured in his classic novel "Our Mutual Friend".
The Captain Kidd: Named after one of Britain's most infamous pirates who was hung here in 1701, as witnessed by Judge Jeffrey's (aka the Hanging Judge) who would take a glass of port from the pub's balcony while Kidd "danced the Hempen Jig" - as sailor slang would have it!
The Mayflower: Built in 1550 and formerly known as The Shippe, it was from here- the jetty at the back of the pub- that Captain Christopher Jones set sail in the 1620's to collect the Pilgrim Fathers to then sail for the New World.
-- I'll drink to that!
